This post was created in partnership with Visit Sarasota County. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Rainy Day Activities For Family Vacations
We returned from a weekend trip to Sarasota. I can’t even begin to tell you how much we loved it. If you’ve watched my Instastories, you have some idea. Even though we had fun and it was a trip my family really needed, it rained the entire time.

Luckily we had a backup plan! When people think of Sarasota, their thoughts immediately go to the beach, but did you know that this place has so many other things to offer? Since we couldn’t go to the beach, I wanted to share a list of rainy day family activities we did to have some fun.
Everyone will find something for themselves in the Mote Marine laboratory and aquarium. It is open 365 days a year, including holidays, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is a great attraction for a rainy day because you can see sharks, sea lions, turtles, manatees and much more. After a trip here, you won’t regret missing the beach.
Tickets are inexpensive, and if you plan your trip in advance, you can spend the entire day at the aquarium and experience everything it has to offer. The Deep Sea Diner at the aquarium is a retro 1950s diner with an old-fashioned soda fountain and a family menu.
On a rainy day you may get a little wet here as the walkway from building to building is open, but with a poncho and umbrella you should be covered.

The Ringling Museum is one of the most famous museums in the world, and for good reason. It is famous for its impressive collection of Renaissance and Baroque art, authored by John Ringling himself. If you don’t know who John Ringling is, you can read more about him and the history of The Ringling here. Not only are the graphics impressive, but the terrain itself is worth seeing. The Venetian Gothic architecture is amazing.
The Circus Museum and Tibbals Science Center are also located on the same grounds. If you are a circus lover, you will definitely want to visit these two buildings. Visitors can experience first-hand what it’s like to be part of the circus by walking a tightrope or squeezing into a small clown car.
The Sarasota Classic Car Museum is every car lover’s dream. It is open 7 days a week and showcases over 75 classic cars. The museum is indoors, so you can be sure you will stay dry. You will also be able to see Ringling’s Rolls Royce car collection here.
There are several movie theaters in Sarasota where you can see your favorite star on the big screen. If you want to go out for dinner and a movie, CinéBistro is the place to be.

Burns Court Cinema is a small theater operated by the Sarasota Film Society and one of the few places where you can find premiere, carefully selected foreign-language, independent and art films. You might even be able to go to one of the annual film festivals if you plan your trip accordingly.
On weekdays at 2 p.m., the Asolo Repertory Theater presents a variety of works, from contemporary to classical. The advantage is that the theater is located on the grounds of the Ringling Museum, so you can visit the museum on the same day.
Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall is every performer’s dream. The building itself is a nice shade of purple, so you can’t miss it from a distance. The hall hosts a large selection of music, dance, theater and comedy performances.
There are many historic buildings and structures in Sarasota. A rainy day is perfect for a drive around the area and taking in the history and beautiful architecture the city has to offer.

The Red Barn Flea Market has been around since 1981 and should be on your to-do list, regardless of the weather. Not only is it an indoor facility, but it also houses 3 farmers markets, garage sales, and over 600 traditional flea markets to choose from.
There are 4 shopping malls to choose from in Sarasota County. There’s something for every budget in Sarasota. Shopping malls are definitely where you can find me on rainy days.
The restaurant options in Sarasota County are endless. You’ll find everything from fast food to seafood here. One of our favorite stops was the Surf Shack located near St. Armands. Their menu has something for everyone. We loved their buffalo egg rolls and tacos. I tried their jerk chicken and fish taco. They were so flavorful and different from anything I had ever eaten before. In the evening, you can enjoy your meal on the top floor of the restaurant called The Terrace.
Even though it rained during our trip to Sarasota, we were still able to have a great time doing these rainy day family activities. We are already planning a trip this fall to enjoy the beach and all that Sarasota County has to offer. While it’s not a fantastic family adventure for everyone, an RV trip is a slice of America that spans the ages. The Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) officially celebrated the 100th anniversary of RVs in 2010. Although the industry has changed significantly since its inception, the concept has remained the same – explore the country, have fun and make memories in the process, and take as many creatures with you as you can.
Things To Do With Kids In Traverse City
Today’s RVs run the gamut from lightweight soft-sided trailers to giant Class A diesel pushers – fold-up camp kitchens stocked with gallon jugs of water to granite countertop kitchens stocked with 100-gallon freshwater tanks. Considering the convenience you can bring with you on your trip, there are a few things that can make a day in your RV worse, but one of them is a dreary, rainy day. As full-time RV enthusiasts, we’ve had our share of these days, so we’ve put together a list of 5 things you can do to beat claustrophobia on inclement days.
Board games are the perfect rainy-day entertainment for children and families traveling in a camper on vacation. Not only do they provide an interesting and engaging way to spend time, but they also foster cooperation and family bonds. Board games require everyone to work together to win, which can help children develop important social skills. Additionally, board games provide a great opportunity for families to bond and spend time together. So the next time it rains while on vacation in your RV, play some board games and enjoy some family fun. And they are great fun! Here are some of our favorite board games to play on rainy days in the camper:
1. Monopoly – this classic game is all about cooperation and planning. It’s a great way to teach kids about money while also bonding with them through friendly competition.
2. Scrabble – Another classic game, perfect for rainy days in the camper. Scrabble is a great way to help children learn new words, and it’s also great fun for adults.

There’s something about baking cookies on a rainy day that makes you feel cozy and comforting. Perhaps it’s the warm smell of sugar and spices wafting through the camper or the sound of raindrops hitting the roof. Whatever the reason, this simple activity can be a great way to bring families together during the holidays. And since kitchens in RVs are often small, it can be a great way to bond with other travelers and spend time together.
One of the greatest benefits of RVing is that you can take your home with you wherever you go. This also applies to your kitchen, meaning you can enjoy all your favorite home-cooked meals on the go. And what could be more comforting than a warm, freshly baked chocolate chip cookie? Here’s an easy recipe the whole family will love.
