Keeping Kids Entertained While Traveling – I’ve always said that driving with screaming kids seems almost as dangerous as driving drunk. It becomes almost impossible to focus and you can forget about enjoying yourself. Even your wife’s breathing starts to add to the noise. We’ve all been there, haven’t we?
While I don’t guard against using iPhones or iPads to escape the madness… I like kids to be able to play something that will keep their brains busy and prevent them from falling victim to “screenslaver”.

With younger kids they may be content with just chewing on them, but my kids use them for songs and characters in countless stories. A bonus with these plastics is that they also make great bath toys!
Wikki Stix are one of my favorites. They are flexible wax sticks and can be stuck to all kinds of smooth surfaces like windows, walls and trays so they are perfect for cars and airplanes. They can be manipulated and bent into all different shapes and designs. May not be great for young kids who will just stick their mouths in but they are highly entertaining for most ages. In fact, you’ll find me playing with them whenever we buy them for my son so… just trust me #worthy
Any threading toy is a great way to entertain your kids and help develop their motor skills.
The Buckle “Buster” is another great motor skills toy that takes concentration for young ones so it’s a good one to keep the mind and hands busy for a while.

The baby rosary is fantastic. It’s basically a jumble of beads that can be put together and moved around and played with. This is another toy I find myself playing with absent minded anger. Bonus: They’re great for teething little ones!
Who likes to pop “button” tabs on soft drink lids?! As kids my siblings and I used to fight over who got to do the… important stuff, you know? Dimple is basically just a giant soft drink lid toy, only you can push the tabs back and forth over and over again. This is the perfect sensory toy and great for super young kids!
The “My Quiet Book” activity book is another great sensory/motor skill toy. It has buttons and snaps, tieable “shoes” and zippers. This is a favorite car toy but is also great for snuggling/sleeping at home and in hotel rooms!
A package of Dot Labels is one of the easiest forms of entertainment for older kids! My son will spend hours peeling and sticking… I like to give him a little journal/notebook so he can stick them but he will also stick them to himself and his car seat. They may take a second to clean but it’s mostly off the fabric so it’s pretty easy and perfect for quiet car time with a busy baby!

Magnet drawing boards are popular toys because they can be “drawn on” and erased repeatedly. A mini drawing board is perfect for cars and planes.
Classic, super cheap, and incredibly addictive. They’re like scratch cards for kids… always so much fun to scratch something away and see what’s underneath!
Glow sticks are super fun for night drives. My son loves making bracelets for everyone in the car and playing music around them. He also fell asleep in their glow. As long as they’re not a distraction to the driver they’re great when restlessness and fatigue mix in and bring car lulls during sleep.
Magnet boards are no mess and so much fun. Kids love the magnets and the boards lay flat so they are easily stored in the back pocket of the car seat.
