Traditionally, a tour of Botteghiamo begins in Piazza di Pasquino, with the famous “talking statue” of Pasquino, a craftsman from the area (perhaps a hairdresser or a shoemaker) known for a certain satirical flair. In fact, quite famous are “pasquinadas”, which are some satirical billboards and manifestos that people attached to the neck of a monument at night in order to criticize famous figures, often political or religious members.

To this day, “pasquinadas” are a way to complain, express people’s dissatisfaction and give a voice to a group of society that is often neglected. These are mainly craftsmen who, locked in their workshops, continue their art and ancient crafts with passion, dedication and technique, now in danger of disappearing, stifled by international industries.
